Doming Resins

Not every epoxy is built for the same job and doming is one of those jobs where the wrong resin shows up immediately as cloudiness, a flat top instead of a raised dome or a surface that never quite hardens. This page walks through our three doming resins, what separates them and which one actually fits what you're making.

Doming resin is used to add a raised, glass-like layer over stickers, labels, badges and small decorative or promotional items. Unlike flooring or art resin, it's formulated for thin, precise coverage and a self-forming dome shape rather than a flat, wide pour.

MB Enterprises being one of the trusted epoxy resin companies has been manufacturing epoxy resins under the MBEPOXY brand since 1987 and the three doming formulations below carry that same ISO 9001:2015-certified quality control that our B2B clients have relied on for label, badge and promotional product manufacturing for years.

What Is Doming Resin Used For?

Doming resin is a clear epoxy applied over a printed or flat surface to create a raised, domed, glass-like finish. It's most associated with doming resin for stickers but the same process applies to badges, keychains, coasters and small branded items.

The "dome" effect happens because the resin's viscosity and surface tension pull it into a rounded shape as it settles, rather than spreading out flat like paint or varnish. That curvature is what gives finished stickers and labels their glossy, almost 3D look.

Because the layer sits directly over printed ink or paper, doming epoxy resin also needs to stay genuinely clear and non-yellowing, any haze or amber tint shows immediately against a printed design, in a way it wouldn't on a solid-colour surface.

Doming Resin for Stickers: What Makes It Different

Doming resin for stickers needs to bond cleanly to printed surfaces without smudging ink, while still self-levelling into a smooth, rounded dome. That combination - clarity, adhesion and controlled flow is what separates a purpose-built doming resin from a general clear epoxy.

Sticker and label doming typically involves thin, small-format pours across many pieces at once, usually to a dome depth of around 1mm to 1.5mm. That makes pot life just as important as clarity: a resin that starts thickening too early makes it difficult to keep every dome consistent across a full sheet.

Our Three Doming Resins Compared

Not every doming project needs the same working time or finish hardness. Here's exactly how the three formulations differ, spec for spec.

All three are formulated for a 1mm-1.5mm dome thickness and perform best at an application temperature of 25-30°C.

How Do You Choose the Best Resin for Doming?

The best resin for doming depends on your substrate and your production timeline - a flexible label needs a different resin than a rigid badge and a same-day turnaround needs a different resin than a batch you can leave curing overnight.

If your doming flex, bend or sit on a soft-backed surface - vinyl stickers on curved bottles, for instance - our flexible doming resin is formulated to cure with flexibility, so it resists cracking and peeling instead of a rigid finish lifting off a moving surface.

If your project is rigid and flat, the choice comes down to how much time you have. Both hard-cure resins share the same 3:1 mix ratio and 1-hour pot life but the fast cure doming resin reaches full cure in 12 hours, while the slow cure doming resin takes 24 hours. For same-day production runs, a fast cure doming resin is the practical choice, for larger or more detailed batches poured at the end of the day, a slow cure doming resin gives the same finish without the rush.

Quick selection guide:

  • Doming stickers or labels on curved, flexible or bendable surfaces - choose Flexible Doming Resin (40-45 min pot life, 24-hour cure)
  • Doming rigid badges or decals with a same-day turnaround - choose Hard Fast-Cure Doming Resin (1-hour pot life, 12-hour cure)
  • Doming rigid pieces where an overnight cure works fine - choose Hard Slow-Cure Doming Resin (1-hour pot life, 24-hour cure)

How Do You Apply Doming Resin? Step-by-Step

1. Prep the surface: Make sure the printed sticker, label or badge surface is clean, dry and free of dust before pouring.

2. Measure by weight, not volume: Flexible Doming Resin mixes at 100:30 (resin:hardener); both hard-cure resins mix at 3:1. Weight-based measuring keeps the ratio accurate.

3. Mix thoroughly within the pot life: You'll have 40-45 minutes with the flexible resin or 1 hour with either hard-cure resin before viscosity increases.

4. Pour to a 1mm-1.5mm dome thickness: Let the resin's self-levelling, high-viscosity behaviour form the dome naturally rather than spreading it manually.

5. Let it cure undisturbed: Flexible and slow-cure resins need about 24 hours at room temperature; fast-cure reaches full cure in around 12 hours. Keep the room between 25-30°C for best results.

Why Choose Us Among Doming Resin Suppliers in India

Among doming resin suppliers in India, most of what's available falls into two categories - imported resin repackaged locally or general-purpose epoxy marketed for doming without being formulated for it. Neither holds up as well against ink, print and repeated flex testing as a purpose-built doming resin does.

MB Enterprises has been manufacturing under the MBEPOXY brand since 1987 and holds ISO 9001:2015 certification, supplying epoxy resins to the adhesives, coatings, textiles, automotive and construction industries long before this doming range reached retail shelves. That's a different bar than resin built primarily for hobbyist art projects and it's why, among the wider group of epoxy resin companies, our doming line tends to get chosen by repeat commercial buyers rather than one-off shoppers.

As one of the more established epoxy resin suppliers in India, our focus at MBEPOXY stays on consistent batch-to-batch pot life and cure behaviour because in doming work, a slightly different cure time between batches is the kind of inconsistency that shows up as a production problem, not just an artistic one.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is doming resin used for?

Doming resin is used to give stickers, labels, badges and small decorative pieces that have a raised, glossy dome finish. Instead of sitting flat like a coating, it builds up into a glass-like bump over the printed surface - adding both depth and a layer of protection to whatever's underneath.

  2. What's the difference between flexible and hard doming resin?

Flexible Doming Resin is mixed at 100:30 by weight and stays slightly pliable once cured, so it won't crack if the surface underneath bends - think labels on curved bottles or soft-backed items. The two hard-cure resins are a different formulation entirely: a 3:1 mix that sets into a rigid, glass-like finish, better suited to flat, stable surfaces like badges or coasters that won't flex.

  3. Should I choose fast cure or slow cure doming resin?

Honestly, it comes down to your timeline. Both hard-cure resins mix at the same 3:1 ratio with a 1-hour pot life, so the working process is identical either way, the real difference shows up after you pour. Fast-cure is ready in about 12 hours, which works well if you need a same-day turnaround. Slow-cure takes closer to 24 hours, which is fine if you're pouring in the evening and don't mind letting it sit overnight.

  4. How long does doming resin take to cure?

Flexible Doming Resin and Hard Slow-Cure Doming Resin around 24 hours at room temperature to fully set. Hard Fast-Cure Doming Resin is quicker - usually around 12 hours. Either way, keeping the room between 25-30°C helps things cure the way they're meant to.

  5. Can doming resin be used on paper stickers without damaging the print?

Yes, as long as you're using a resin actually made for doming. These formulations are designed to sit over printed ink without smudging or pulling color, which isn't something you can always count on with a general-purpose epoxy - some inks react to it in ways that ruin the finish.

  6. How do I choose the best resin brand in India for doming projects?

Skip the packaging and pricing for a second and look at what actually backs the product - batch consistency, real technical specs and whether the company has genuine doming experience rather than just repackaging general epoxy. A manufacturer with certifications and a long B2B track record will actually be the best resin brand than the one that just looks good on a retail shelf.

  7. Does doming epoxy resin yellow over time?

Not under normal conditions - all three of our doming resins are built to resist yellowing. That said, no clear resin is completely immune to years of direct sunlight, so pieces kept indoors or out of constant UV exposure will hold their clarity noticeably longer.
